Ingredients

Cook Mode
  • 1 lb boneless round steak or 1 lb charcoal chuck steak, cut into thin 3-inch strips
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 small onion, cut into wedges
  • hot cooked rice, for serving
  • toasted sesame seeds, for serving (optional)

For the sauce

  • 1/3 cup reduced sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp water

Preparation

1
In a bowl, combine the 2 tbsp cornstarch, 2 tbsp water and garlic powder until smooth. Add beef and toss.
2
In a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat, stir-fry the beef in 1 tbsp oil until beef reaches desired doneness; remove and keep warm.
3
Stir-fry the onion in remaining oil for 4-5 minutes until softened. Add the broccoli and cook for 3 minutes until the broccoli is tender but still crisp. Return beef to pan.
4
Make the sauce: combine soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger and cornstarch and water until smooth; add to the pan. Cook and stir for 2 minutes.
5
Serve over rice and garnish with toasted sesame seeds (optional).
