Ingredients

Cook Mode

For the Crust

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
  • 6-8 tbsp ice water

For the Filling

  • 6-8 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and thinly sliced (about 6 cups)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

For the Egg Wash (optional)

  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar (for sprinkling)
