Ingredients
For the Crust
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
- 6-8 tbsp ice water
For the Filling
- 6-8 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and thinly sliced (about 6 cups)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
For the Egg Wash (optional)
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tbsp milk
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar (for sprinkling)
