Fried Tofu

Crispy golden tofu, lightly seasoned and pan-fried to perfection, delivering a satisfying crunch with a tender, flavorful center.

Ingredients

  • 14oz Extra firm tofu
  • 2 tbsp corn starch
  • 1/2 tsp tumeric
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2/3 cup olive (or canola) oil

Preparation

Drain the tofu and remove as much moisture as you can. I use the microwave to do this: cut up the tofu in sizes you like and place on a microwave-safe plate that is lined with some paper towel. Put a few paper towels on top and then put the plate in the microwave for 4 mins. Let it sit for a few minutes before frying.

Add oil to a cast iron or sautée pan - I use canola, but olive oil works nicely, too. Begin heating up the oil.

In a mixing bowl combine the corn starch, tumeric, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix.

Throw the tofu in the bowl and coat by tossing.

Once the oil is hot, place the tofu in the pan and let it cook on one side for about 6-7 mins. Then flip the pieces of tofu and cook for another 6-7 mins.

Place the tofu on a rack with paper towels underneath to catch any drippings. The air drying will help them crisp up a bit.

Garlic green beans with parmesan

Ingredients

  • 1 pound (500 g) green beans, washed and pat dry
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or canola oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped garlic (6 cloves garlic)
  • 2 tbsp fresh chopped parsley
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese

Preparation

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Lightly spray a baking sheet or tray with cooking oil spray.

Arrange the green beans in one layer on baking sheet. Drizzle with oil and season with salt, pepper, garlic and parmesan. Toss beans to evenly coat.

Roast in the oven for 20-25 minutes, tossing halfway through cooking time, until fork tender.

Remove from oven, season with extra salt and pepper to taste. Sprinkle over with parsley and serve.
